Krishna Kapoor, the wife of the late legendary Bollywood actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, died here on Monday, said a family member. She was 87.
According to reports she breathed her last at 5 am this morning after suffering from a cardiac arrest.
“My mother passed away at about 5 am today due to cardiac arrest…old age was another factor. We are deeply saddened by her demise,” son Randhir Kapoor told PTI.
The last rites will be performed at the Chembur crematorium, north east Mumbai, Randhir said. It was unclear when the funeral will take place as her son Rishi Kapoor has flown to the US for medical treatment.
The film industry took to Twitter to express sorrow over his mother’s demise.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher tweeted: “Deeply saddened to learn about the sad demise of Krishna Raj Kapoorji. She was one of the most dignified and affectionate ladies that I met.
Krishna Raj Kapoor, who wed Raj Kapoor in May 1946, is survived by her five children — Ritu Nanda, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Rima Jain and Rajiv Kapoor.
